Holding Space for Us:
Navigating Racism in Therapy as Therapists of Color
This specialized training is designed to support BIPOC therapists in navigating the complexities of racism and microaggressions within the therapeutic space. As mental health professionals of color, our identities often intersect with the challenges we face in practice. We’ll explore the nuanced ways racism and microaggressions show up in therapy, understand their impact on therapeutic relationships and outcomes, and develop practical strategies . Through interactive activities, real-world scenarios, and collective dialogue, this training equips you with the tools to hold space for yourself while continuing to hold space for others.
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
Define microaggressions and explore how they intersect with therapist identity.
Identify common microaggressions that arise in therapy spaces.
Assess how microaggressions affect the therapeutic alliance and treatment outcomes.
Recognize the presence and impact of microaggressions at both client and organizational levels.
Create personalized strategies to address and respond to microaggressions within clinical and institutional settings.
