Culturally Humble Parent Coaching
This training explores the integration of cultural humility into parent coaching practices for therapists working with diverse families. Grounded in strengths-based and collaborative approaches, this training invites mental health professionals to deepen their understanding of how culture, identity, intergenerational experiences, and systemic influences shape parenting values, expectations, and practices. Through experiential learning, case discussions, and practical tools, therapists will develop greater awareness of their own cultural lenses, biases, and assumptions while enhancing their ability to partner with parents from various backgrounds in respectful, empowering ways. Participants will leave with concrete strategies for offering culturally responsive parent coaching that honors family traditions, acknowledges resilience, and fosters generational healing and growth.
Upon Completion, Participants will be able to:
Define cultural humility and distinguish it from cultural competence in the context of parent coaching.
Identify how culture, historical trauma, and systemic oppression can impact parenting practices and family dynamics.
Apply a strengths-based, collaborative framework to support culturally diverse parents in setting goals and making changes aligned with their values.
